Engaging Non-Communicative Students Through Emotional Intelligence

Silence in the classroom is rarely about ability or motivation.

Often, non-communicative students are dealing with fear of mistakes, low confidence, anxiety, or harsh past learning experiences. Pushing harder doesn’t always lead to engagement — sometimes it leads to withdrawal.

During our ILETA Online Monthly MeetUp on Monday 23 February 2026, we will be discussing using emotional intelligence to create an atmosphere of psychological safety, offer low-risk ways for our students to participate, and remove emotional barriers to communication.
