ABSTRACT
ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI. It generates human-like responses to questions and performs other language-related tasks based on the data it collects from the internet. Its ability to use language and gather ideas, arriving at conclusions has taken the world by storm since its launch in March 2023.
Education is one of the fields in which ChatGPT has an immediate impact.
While some educators were excited about its possibilities, many had ethical, legal, and social concerns.
This presentation will discuss the use of ChatGPT in Legal English teaching, what it provides, the risks it poses, and how it can assist both instructors and learners as a teaching tool.
Biography
Dr. A. Serçin Kutucu
Dr. A. Serçin Kutucu is a legal expert and consultant with a doctorate degree in EU Law and a master’s degree in International Human Rights Law.
She is a published author of the book ‘Free Movement of Third Country Nationals in the European Union: Common Border Controls and Visa Policy.‘
Dr. Kutucu taught ‘EU Law’ at the graduate level and ‘International Migration and Refugee Law‘ at the postgraduate level at the university.
With substantial knowledge of international law, Dr. Kutucu has been providing Legal English courses to both university students and professionals since 2017.
She considers these courses as an essential component for the internationalisation of the Turkish legal industry.
