Role of Participatory Approach in Teaching Legal English

‘Participatory’ study seems to be a buzzword in education, but what does it really mean in practice?

Participatory approach is crucial in teaching legal English. Strong collaboration of teachers and students gives the study process the authentic flavour and makes it more motivational and rewarding.

Participatory study accommodates the relevant needs of the students in the most efficient way and supports them to build their own learning pathway. Such approach enhances the feeling of ownership of the study process and improves self-esteem of the students.

In my paper I will showcase how all above mentioned are translated into the classroom activities during the legal English teaching process at the University Level and how the outcomes are applicable to future learning experiences.

Considering the title of my paper, I will present my paper together with my student,  Lilika Gvaramia who will discuss her findings about the participatory learning process from the students’ perspectives.

Tinatin Kbilashvili and Lilika Gvaramia

Tinatin Kbilashvili has over 10 year-experience in teaching Legal English to Law Students at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Georgia. Tinatin  has the academic degrees in Law and the English Philology.
